5 things to think about when moving your office

By | Furniture Liquidations | No Comments

An office move can be a daunting task. One that involves consideration of space, dimensions, budget and aesthetics. Here are 5 things to consider:

  1. Is the office conveniently located to clients, staff and other businesses?

2. Does the size of the office comfortably accommodate staff, communal spaces, break rooms and room for future growth?

3. Does the office adequately promote your image?

4. Is the building well maintained?

5. Does security and surveillance meet your company’s needs?

Embrace Green Building Without Breaking the Bank

Employees who work in buildings with LEED status are healthier, more productive and more likely to remain longer with their companies. In tandem, business owners have signaled a willingness to spend more on eco-friendly spaces — and building owners are taking note. It’s anticipated that commercial-building owners will spend $960 billion globally by the year 2023 upgrading building infrastructure to meet the U.S. Green Building Council’s rigorous LEED standards.

5 Minute Cubicle Spruce-up

Your cubicle is your home-away-from-home. Make it a more enjoyable place to spend your 8+ hours a day and boost your productivity. Here are a few suggestions:

Clear the clutter – Spend 2 minutes cleaning up paper piles, keep 1 reusable cup and hide unnecessary items that you only use periodically, out of sight.

Wipe down surfaces – Take a minute to clean your computer screen, keyboard, mouse and phone keypad. Disinfecting wipes are great for this!

Organize – Use the last 2 minutes on organizing pens, papers, paper clips, highlighters, sticky notes, other supplies.

Now take a look around and add any last-minute touches like a spritz of air freshener, a motivational quote or picture of your family/pet.

There…done! Now, get to work!

Prepare Your Business Now

Hurricane preparedness does not end at home. An often over-looked segment of hurricane safety is the workplace. Whether or not you are an employee or an employer, it is essential to take proactive steps in preparing for unpredictable storms and other disasters.

By taking the initiative to start planning early, you can create a plan that will have you fully prepared in the event of a disaster. While securing plans for your home and loved ones, take some time to focus on the future of your business or work place. Forty percent of small businesses that close due to hurricane damage do not reopen. In order to prevent your business from being another statistic, it is critical to prepare now.

Open plan offices, do they make us more social?

In recent years, a number of big companies – IBM, Bank of America, Aetna, Yahoo! under former chief executive officer Marissa Mayer – cut back on their telecommuting programs in the name of more interaction and cooperation between employees, supposedly fostered by being stuck together in an office. The business model of companies providing co-working spaces, such as $20 billion “unicorn” WeWork, is also based on the proposition that if people find themselves in a shared space, they’ll network and cooperate more.

What is that heap of metal?

By | Furniture Liquidations | No Comments

In our warehouse, we have a designated aisle for scrap metal. Old, damaged furniture that can’t be sold on the showroom floor is stripped down of all of its reusable, recyclable parts. The remnants are then taken to a scrap metal yard.

Why? For recycling! This reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills by literally tons!
