Many animals that were in shelters in the affected areas before the storm hit are being sent to others across the country to make room for this week’s rescues. SPCA shelters in Norfolk and Virginia Beach already have offered to take some.
The rescued pets will be kept locally as long as possible so owners can find them.
“Eventually we may get some of the animals from that part of Texas that have been there awhile and have not been reclaimed,” said Rob Blizard, executive director of Norfolk’s SPCA. “But the areas hit hard by flooding are going to be focused on returns to owners. I’m sure there are going to be a lot of people desperately looking for their pets.”*
Office Furniture Outlet is a drop-off location for donations to help these homeless animals. Items needed include: blankets, towels, dry PURINA cat and dog food, cat litter, dog and cat treats, dog and cat toys, bleach, liquid laundry detergent, Windex & 409, Ziplock sandwich bags, cotton balls/swabs and gauze pads. Please bring your donations to 5595 Raby Rd, Norfolk by October 15th. If you have any questions, please call Joy at 757-855-2800. Thanks in advance for supporting us in this effort!
